Kazakhstan's Uranium Supply Agreement with India
Kazakhstan, a resource-rich country and the world's top producer of uranium, has entered into a fresh contract to supply uranium to India for its nuclear power plants. This agreement follows recent discussions between Kazakhstan's uranium company, Kazatomprom, and India's Department of Atomic Energy.
Background and Previous Agreements
- In January 2009, Kazatomprom signed an agreement with India's Nuclear Power Corporation (NPCIL) to supply 2,100 tonnes of uranium.
- In July 2015, an agreement was concluded with India's Department of Atomic Energy to supply 5,000 tonnes of uranium over the period from 2015 to 2019.
