High-income countries are the main sources of international remittances:

  • United States: Over $100 billion in 2024
  • Saudi Arabia: Over $46 billion
  • Switzerland: Around $40 billion
  • Germany: Nearly $24 billion

Internationally Mobile Students

Asian countries dominate in terms of internationally mobile students:

  • China: Over 1 million students abroad
  • India: Over 620,000 students abroad

Other notable countries include Uzbekistan, Vietnam, and Germany.

The report emphasizes addressing the "brain drain" to "brain gain" transition, benefiting both origin and destination countries:

  • India employs initiatives such as diaspora conventions and innovation hubs.
  • China has the Thousand Talents Plan to attract overseas academics back home.

Internal Displacements in Asia

In 2024, the largest internal displacements in Asia were due to disasters:

  • Philippines: Nearly 9 million disaster displacements, mainly due to typhoons
