The World Health Organization has declared a new Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda as a "public health emergency of international concern".
Advisory for Travellers to India
- The Indian government has issued an advisory for travelers from "high risk countries" entering India.
- Passengers from the DRC, Uganda, and South Sudan with symptoms such as fever, fatigue, headache, and unexplained bleeding must report to health officers at Indian airports.
- Individuals with a history of contact with Ebola cases should notify health authorities upon entry.
- Travellers developing symptoms within 21 days of arrival should seek immediate medical care.
Postponement of Summits
In light of the outbreak, India has postponed key summits:
India-Africa Forum Summit (IAFS-IV)
- Originally scheduled for May 28-31 in New Delhi with the African Union Commission, the summit will be rescheduled.
- Aimed to strengthen the India-Africa partnership and discuss cooperation across diverse sectors.
- New dates will be decided through mutual consultations.
International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit
- Initially set for June 1-2 in New Delhi, the summit has been postponed to ensure participation from all range countries, including African nations.
- The summit focuses on conservation and ecological sustainability efforts for big cats.
India's Commitment to Africa
India reaffirms solidarity and readiness to support Africa CDC's efforts in addressing the health situation, underlining a shared commitment to an Africa-led response.
Currently, there are no reported Ebola cases in India.
