In response to the devastating earthquakes in Venezuela on June 24, 2026, India launched Operation Amistad, a humanitarian aid mission to assist the affected populations.
Details of the Earthquake
- The earthquakes were of magnitudes 7.2 and 7.5, making them among the strongest in Venezuela in over a century.
- The catastrophe resulted in 920 deaths and 3,360 injuries, with thousands still reported missing.
Indian Assistance
- A 41-member team from the Indian Army's 60 Para Field Hospital, including nine medical officers, was deployed.
- Two Indian Air Force (IAF) C-17 Globemaster aircraft carried over 35 tons of relief supplies, medicines, and medical equipment.
- The relief package included:
- An Indian Army Field Hospital unit with HADR pallets.
- 30 tons of relief supplies.
- 6 tons of medicines and medical equipment.
- Two BHISHM cube portable hospitals.
- The team will collaborate with Venezuelan authorities in search and rescue, emergency medical care, and humanitarian relief efforts.
India's Commitment
India, demonstrating solidarity, has expressed its willingness to extend further assistance and remains closely coordinated with the Venezuelan government. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized India's commitment to stand with Venezuela during this challenging period.

Acting President Delcy Rodríguez reported that the death toll might increase as search operations continue, given the number of missing persons.
