Steps to be Taken
- Strengthen Border Management: Modernize border fencing, Implement smart surveillance using drones, sensors, and AI.
- Enact a National Refugee Law: for legal distinction of refugees and illegal immigrants.
- Maintain Biometric Records: Keep records of all illegal immigrants/asylum seekers to prevent ID fraud.
- Issue National Identity Cards (NID) to Indian Citizens: Expedite NID/National Register of Indian Citizens (NRC) implementation.
- Legal & Diplomatic Measures: Negotiate bilateral repatriation agreements with Bangladesh and Myanmar by utilizing forums such as SAARC/BIMSTEC.
- International Cooperation: Engage UNHCR/IOM for support in managing illegal immigration, including repatriation.
