The Prime Minister visited Indonesia to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership through enhanced defence, economic and Indo-Pacific cooperation.

Why is Indonesia Important for India?
- Historical Links: Centuries-old maritime, Buddhist and Hindu civilisational connections; founding members of the Bandung Conference (1955) and the Non-Aligned Movement.
- Diaspora: Around 1.5 lakh people of Indian origin contribute to business, education and cultural relations.
- Trade: Indonesia is India's second largest trading partner in ASEAN; bilateral trade exceeds US$30 billion.
- Defence: Army's Garuda Shakti and Navy’s Samudra Shakti, coordinated patrols (IND-INDO CORPAT) and growing defence-industrial cooperation.
- Strategic Importance: Located near the Strait of Malacca, Indonesia is central to India's Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision and Indo-Pacific strategy.
