ISRO's Milestone Mission
The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) marked a significant achievement with its 100th rocket mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.
NVS-02 Satellite Deployment
- The mission successfully launched a second-generation navigation satellite, NVS-02.
- NVS-02 is part of India's Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC), a constellation designed with seven satellites.
- The satellite was launched aboard the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) at 6:23 am.
Significance of the Mission
ISRO Chairman V Narayanan expressed his satisfaction with the mission, noting its importance as the first successful launch of the year and the 100th launch from the centre.
ISRO's Achievements
- Over the last 46 years, ISRO has placed in orbit a total of 548 satellites weighing 120 tonnes.
- This includes 433 foreign satellites weighing 23 tonnes.
Future Plans
- ISRO aims to enhance its capacity and achieve 200 missions in the next five years.
