IPCC Seventh Assessment Report (AR7)
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) convened in Hangzhou, China, to draft the Seventh Assessment Report (AR7) and a methodology report on carbon dioxide removal technologies. This meeting is crucial, particularly after record warm temperatures last year, which were about 1.55°C above pre-industrial levels, and the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Agreement.

Special and Methodology Reports
Six months prior, the IPCC approved outlines for a Special Report on Climate Change and Cities and a Methodology Report on Short-Lived Climate Forcers. Author nominations and selections are in progress, with Lead Author Meetings to take place soon.
Challenges and Considerations
- 195 member countries will discuss timelines and budgets for four reports during the session.
- Some scientists advocate for a timeline that aligns with the Global Stocktake in 2028, but there are divisions over accelerated timelines.
