e-Sanad Portal Simplification

The process for Indian citizens to apply and obtain attestation of certificates and apostilles through the e-Sanad portal has been simplified.

Key Features

  • The new process eliminates the need for documents to be sent to New Delhi for processing.
  • More universities and educational institutions, particularly in Tamil Nadu, are now integrated into the e-Sanad system.
  • The attestation/apostille of documents uploaded to e-Sanad has been operational in Chennai since early September.

Simplified Procedure

  • Create a profile on e-Sanad.
  • Upload required documents and pay through Bharatkosh.
  • Verification by the document issuing authority (such as universities).
  • Further verification by the General Administrative Department of the State government.
  • Finally, the MEA issues a digital attestation.

Processing Timeline and Benefits

  • Processed within seven working days after the State government forwards the application.
  • Documents dispatched to applicants via speed post.
  • Online tracking available for applicants.

Impact

  • Assists Indians seeking foreign employment, residing abroad, or pursuing studies overseas.
  • Facilitates the attestation of personal, educational, and commercial documents.
  • Since the launch in September, around 300 applications have been successfully processed in Chennai.
