Kaziranga Elevated Corridor Project

On January 18, 2026, Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Kaziranga Elevated Corridor in Assam. This project, valued at Rs 6,957 crore, is aimed at enhancing ecological conservation and transportation infrastructure.

Project Details

  • The corridor is part of the four-laning project of the Kaliabor-Numaligarh section of NH-715.
  • It includes approximately 34.45 km of elevated wildlife-friendly corridors.
  • Bypasses are planned at Jakhalabandha and Bokakhat.

Objectives

  • Wildlife Protection: Ensure safe wildlife movement across the Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve.
  • Road Safety: Reduce road accidents on National Highway-715.
  • Economic Development: Boost ecotourism and generate local employment opportunities.

Significance of Kaziranga National Park

The Kaziranga National Park is internationally renowned for its biodiversity, especially for housing the world's largest population of one-horned rhinoceroses, along with substantial populations of tigers, elephants, wild water buffalo, and swamp deer.

Amrit Bharat Express Trains

Prime Minister Modi also flagged off two Amrit Bharat Express trains virtually, enhancing connectivity in the region.
