The demand for semiconductors in India has been significantly revised to an estimated $150 billion by 2030, a 50% increase from previous estimates. This change reflects the growing push in electronics and components facilitated by various incentive schemes aimed at creating a $500 billion ecosystem.

    • India aims to meet 20-30% of its semiconductor demand through its lone fabrication plant and 12 Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (Osat)/Assembly, Testing, Marking and Packaging (ATMP) players.
    • Key players such as Micron Technology, Kaynes Technology, and CG Power and Industrial Solutions are already operational.
  • Global and AI Demand:
    • The global AI boom is increasing demand for processing power and high-end graphics units.
    • India is positioning itself as a key base for chip assembly, in parallel with Malaysia.

Global Market Trends

Earlier estimates projected the global semiconductor demand to reach $1 trillion by 2030. However, the Semiconductor Industry Association now anticipates reaching this milestone by the end of this year due to AI-driven demand and efforts to address the global memory chip shortage.

Import Data

India's semiconductor imports have seen a significant increase. From April to May 2026, imports rose 44%, reaching $8.5 billion compared to $5.91 billion in the previous year.
