Under the leadership of Prime Minister , Bharat has been committed to the principle of sabka saath, sabka vikas, sabka vishwas, sabka prayaas, ensuring inclusive growth that encompasses all sections of society, especially the weaker and disadvantaged. This involves innovative approaches such as referring to backward districts as “Aspirational Districts”, border villages as “Vibrant and First Villages”, and the Northeast as "Ashtalakshmi" to transform geographical marginalisation into empowerment.

Blue Economy and Agricultural Revolutions

The focus on the Blue Economy marks a significant step towards inclusive growth. Historically, the Green and White Revolutions addressed challenges like hunger and milk shortage. Today, Bharat ranks among the top global producers of rice, wheat, pulses, and millets, and is the largest milk-producing country, reducing protein deficiency significantly.

• The Blue Revolution seeks to tap into Bharat's maritime potential, with over 11,000 km of coastline and a large Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
• Bharat has become the second-largest fish-producing country, contributing around 8% to global fish production, supporting nearly 3 crore fishermen and fish farmers.
• Fish production reached over 195 lakh tonnes in 2024-25, reinforcing its role in food security and nutrition.

Recent Initiatives and Developments

Recent efforts include the creation of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and initiatives like the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana. These efforts aim to harness fisheries sustainably, with a focus on the EEZ and high seas.

• In Odisha, a national program promoting sustainable fisheries was launched, reflecting collective resolve towards growth and sustainability in marine fisheries.
• In Lakshadweep, development projects under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana have been approved.
• The Union Budget 2025-26 proposed an enabling framework for sustainable fisheries from the EEZ and the high seas.

Economic Impact and Global Position

India's seafood exports have reached over Rs 73,000 crore, with a significant increase since 2013-2014. This success is attributed to digital authorisation systems, vessel tracking, and international certification, enhancing the global reputation of Indian seafood.

Sustainability and Future Prospects

While pursuing growth, Bharat remains committed to sustainable practices in fishing, emphasizing conservation measures and opposing illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing. The Blue Economy aims to create employment opportunities not only in fishing but also in processing, logistics, and export services, providing opportunities for youth and women and strengthening the coastal economy.

As Bharat progresses towards Viksit Bharat @ 2047, the commitment to an inclusive and sustainable Blue Economy is reaffirmed. The Fisheries Ministry, under PM, is steering this transformation with a focus on modernizing the fishing industry through science, technology, and innovation. The youth are encouraged to view fishing as a modern profession, supported by institutions providing knowledge, technology, and finance.
