IBBI has been sharing Data with Enforcement Directorate(ED) to strengthen anti-money laundering law and aiding recovery of siphoned assets.

About IBBI

  • It was established in 2016 under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 (Code). 
  • It is responsible for the implementation of the IBC.
  • The IBBI regulates professionals as well as processes
    • It has regulatory oversight over the insolvency professional agencies, insolvency professional entities, insolvency professionals and information utilities. 
    • It enforces rules for processes of corporate insolvency resolution, individual insolvency resolution, corporate liquidation and individual bankruptcy under the IBC.

Key Highlights

  • Locations: spread across northern Italy, primarily in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

Union Government has introduced a national Access Pass system to encourage sustainable fishing within its Exclusive Economic Zone.

  • EEZ is an area of the ocean which shall not extend beyond 200 nautical miles from the baselines from which the breadth of the territorial sea is measured.

Access Pass under EEZ Rules

  • Objectives: Promote deep-sea fishing transition andencourage formation of Fisheries Cooperatives and Fishermen Fish Producer Organisations (FFPOs).
  • Applicability: Mandatory for~64,000 mechanised vesselsand large motorised vessels (>24m)
  • Exemption: Traditional non-motorised/artisanal fishers
  • ReALCRaft Digital Platform: 
    • Pass issued free of cost, fully online. 
    • Developed by NIC & Department of Fisheries.
    • ReALCRaft integrated with Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) – Catch Certificates and Export Inspection Council (EIC) – Health Certificates

Union Health Minister launched indigenously manufactured Tetanus & Adult Diphtheria (Td) Vaccine, formally introduced under Universal Immunization Programme (UIP).

About UIP of India

  • Genesis: Initially launched in 1978 as the Expanded Programme on Immunization, it was rebranded as the UIP in 1985.
  • Coverage: Provides free immunization against 12 diseases:
    • Nationwide (11): Diphtheria, Pertussis, Tetanus, Polio, Measles, Rubella, severe form of Childhood Tuberculosis, Rotavirus diarrhea, Hepatitis B, Meningitis & Pneumonia caused by Hemophilus Influenza type B, and Pneumococcal Pneumonia.
    • Region-specific (1): Japanese Encephalitis (only in endemic districts).
  • Achievements: Polio-Free India (2014), Neonatal tetanus elimination (2015).
  • Key Initiatives: Intensified Mission Indradhanush 5.0 (IMI 5.0) campaign with special focus on improvement of Measles and Rubella vaccination coverage, U-WIN Portal, etc.

Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) report reveals over 500,000 pangolins were seized globally from 2016 to 2024.

About Pangolins

  • They are only mammals wholly-covered in scales and use those scales to protect themselves from predators in wild.
    • Scales made of keratin (same material as human nails).
  • Also called “scaly anteaters” due to diet of ants & termites.
  • Key characteristics: Solitary, primarily nocturnal animals; long, sticky tongues that are longer than their bodies, toothless.
  • Distribution: 8 pangolin species are found on two continents (Asia and Africa).
  • Two pangolin species found in India: 
    • Indian Pangolin (IUCN status: Endangered): Found throughout country, south of Himalayas, excluding north-eastern region. 
    • Chinese Pangolin (IUCN status: Critically Endangered): Ranges through Assam and eastern Himalayas

  • Widely used in cancer research, neural circuit mapping and protein tracking.
    • Traditionally used only as optical markers.

Information Utilities

Entities registered with and regulated by the IBBI under the IBC. They are responsible for collecting, collating, and disseminating financial information to facilitate the insolvency resolution process.

Siphoned assets

Assets or funds that have been illegally or deceptively diverted or misappropriated from their rightful owner or purpose. The Enforcement Directorate, with data from IBBI, works to recover such assets.

Anti-money laundering law

Legislation designed to prevent criminals from disguising illegally obtained funds as legitimate income. In India, the Prevention of Money-Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA) is the primary law, and the IBBI's work supports its enforcement.
