About Modified UDAN Scheme

  • Time period: 10 years (FY 2026-27 to FY 2035-36)
  • Total outlay: Rs.28,840 crore. 
  • Components of Scheme:
    • Development of Aerodromes (CAPEX): Develop 100 airports from unserved airstrips to boost regional connectivity, in line with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision.
    • Operation & Maintenance (O&M): Financial support for 3 years to ~441 RCS-only aerodromes, capped at ₹3.06 crore per airport and ₹0.90 crore per heliport/water aerodrome.
    • Modern Helipads: Development of 200 helipads in remote, hilly, and aspirational areas to enhance last-mile connectivity and emergency services.
    • Viability Gap Funding (VGF): ₹10,043 crore support over 10 years for airline operators to sustain regional routes.
    • Atmanirbhar Aircraft Acquisition: Procurement of HAL Dhruv helicopters and Dornier aircrafts to strengthen aviation capacity in remote and difficult terrains.

About UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) Scheme

  • Launch: October 2016.
  • Implementation: Ministry of Civil Aviation
  • Objective: Making air travel affordable and accessible to all; strengthening connectivity to Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
  • Achievements:
    • 663 routes have been operationalised across 95 airports, heliports and water aerodromes (as on March 2026).
    • More than 3.44 lakh flights have been operated, carrying over 163 lakh passengers.
    • Connectivity improved in remote, hilly and island regions, supported tourism and emergency services, encouraged the growth of regional airlines.
