Supreme Court Directive on Air Pollution in NCR
The Supreme Court has instructed the Delhi government, municipal bodies, and other agencies in NCR states to submit an "action taken plan" related to the recommendations provided by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to address air pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR).
CAQM Recommendations
- Phasing out polluting vehicles in the Delhi-NCR region.
- Strengthening the Pollution Under Control (PUC) regime.
- Augmenting rail transport and metro models.
- Implementing a revised electric vehicle policy.
- Providing higher incentives for owners scrapping their old vehicles.
- Recommendations include resolving toll congestion at Delhi border entry points and adopting advanced technology.
Implementation and Monitoring
- Agencies have been identified to provide an Environment Compensation Charge fund for smooth implementation.
- The CAQM has identified competent agencies for the execution of these measures.
Judicial Stance
The Supreme Court emphasized that there will be no objections entertained regarding the recommendations. It called on stakeholders to submit their action plans to effectively implement the CAQM measures without delay.
