Launched on 1 July 2015, Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) has completed more than 10 years of advancing irrigation-led agricultural transformation in India.
About PMKSY
- Type: Centrally Sponsored Scheme. Funding Ratio (Centre to State):
- Ministry: Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.
- Objective: To expand assured irrigation, improve on-farm water efficiency, and promote sustainable water conservation.
- 60:40 for most states.
- 90:10 for North Eastern and Himalayan states.
- 100% grant by the Central Government for Union Territories.

Impact and Significance of PMKSY
- Increased Coverage: Benefited over 27 million farmers and created/restored irrigation potential across 24.61 million hectares.
- Micro-Irrigation: It has brought ~ 110 lakh hectares under micro-irrigation (drip and sprinkler irrigation).
- Yield Enhancement: Led to increase in crop yields by 25–30% along with reduction in input costs such as fertilisers.
- Environmental benefits: Reduces water wastage, improves soil moisture and health, and bolsters climate-resilient farming practices.
