About Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee (1901 - 1953)
- Born in Calcutta, qualified as a barrister after being called to the English Bar in 1926.
- Became the youngest Vice-Chancellor of Calcutta University in 1934 at the age of 33.
- Elected to the Bengal Legislative Council in 1929.
Key Contributions
- Played a significant humanitarian role during the Bengal Famine (1943).
- Served as Minister for Industry and Supply in Jawaharlal Nehru's Cabinet.
- He was given the title ‘The lion of Parliament’.
- In 1940, he became the acting President of the All-India Hindu Mahasabha.
