Key Findings of the Report 

  • Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) : Overall GER increased from 23.7 (2014–15) to 29.5 (2022–23) and 30.0 (2023–24).
    • Female GER rose from 22.9 (2014–15) to 30.2 (2022–23) and 31.2 (2023–24).
    • GER is the ratio of students enrolled in higher education to the total population in the 18–23 years age group.
  • Gender Parity Index (GPI): Female GER has remained higher than male GER for seven consecutive years, reflecting greater participation of women in higher education ( 1.08 in 2023–24).
  • Social Inclusion: SC enrolment reached 69.72 lakh (+51.4%), ST enrolment 28.83 lakh (+75.7%, highest growth), and OBC enrolment 1.80 crore (+60.2%) in 2023–24 compared to 2014–15.
  • STEM enrolment: The share of women rose from 38.4% to 44%, reflecting greater gender inclusivity in science and technology education.
  • Faculty: The total number of faculty/teachers increased to 17.32 lakh in 2023-24, of which 55.1% are male and 44.9% are female.
